TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

The philosophy of teaching I have developed is a very simple one ...

Always put the interests of your student first!

This one objective reliably guides every other aspect of teaching, and will logically lead to the fulfilment of the 7 teaching standards.

Over the past 14 years, I have had the great privilege of working as an educator in High School, University (Associate Lecturer) and in Vocational Education (Tutor and then Course Development Lead). During this time, I have actively been involved in the study of Pedagogical and Andragogical techniques and approaches aimed at students from a wide range of socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, with various levels of prior education and experience. I have taught a range of topics and student cohorts, from year 7 programming students that have zero prior knowledge or experience, through to final year University students undertaking industry based projects, as well as supporting Ph.D. candidates with High-Performance computing algorithms, research software deployment and revision control systems.

It is the very diversity of subject matter, and diversity in student backgrounds, personalities, strengths and character, that upon reflection, has embedded the notion that there is no factor more important in teaching, than understanding, respecting and putting the individual students needs above all else.

As an Educator, Parent, Foster Carer and member of society, I feel there is no greater achievement, than assisting another person in reaching their potential.

"The secret to education lies in respecting the pupil"

"Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile"
